What to Expect at a Kundalini Yoga Class
You will begin your Kundalini class by “tuning in” with a chant after which you will engage in some warm-ups to stretch your spine and increase flexibility. Next comes the main part or kriya, where your instructor will lead you through a set of poses and breathing.
The Kriya, or exercise sequence, has a particular focus. Kriyas focus on both physical aspects and aspects of healing the body, mind and spirit. A period of meditation is usually included in the class. During meditation, you will focus your eyes on a certain spot, hold your hands in certain positions (mudras), and use a specific posture. Deep relaxation, and relaxing or meditating to the sounds of the symphonic gong may be part of the class.
